The tour starts by flying into India's capital city Delhi where we spend 2 days which gives you the opportunity to experience this frenetic and fascinating city. New Delhi has much to offer and is rich in architectural history. As an introduction to the crafts and textiles of India, we will be visiting the biggest annual craft fair where artisans from every state throughout India can be seen working and displaying their crafts. |
|
| |
From
Delhi we then move onto Agra for 1 day in order to visit
the breathtaking and beautiful Taj Mahal the world's
greatest monument to love. We hope to visit at sunrise
and sunset but this will depend upon any restrictions
applying at the time. |
|
|
| |
|
We
then travel on to the dusty pink City of Jaipur for
3 days. Here you will visit palaces and the incredible
Amber Fort where you will enter on the back of an
elephant (optional). This is also home to the Jantar
Mantar an observatory begun by Jai Singh in 1728.
But at the heart of Jaipur are its' bustling and bountiful
bazaars displaying an amazing array of crafts. This
is the place to shop until you drop! |
|
| |
We will also be visiting the outlying villages where you will see the many artisans at work. This will include weavers, potters, dyers , paper making and carpet makers as well as block printing. At the end of each day there will be an opportunity to relax in the tranquil surroundings of your hotel and even have a swim before dinner. |

| |
The following 2 days will be spent in Jodhpur with the ever present Meherangarh Fort towering over the spice markets and weavers,
another opportunity to see artisans at work and stock up on spices. |

No
visit to India would be complete without at least one
train journey . The next day we travel first class to
Ahmedabad where you can marvel
at the sights surrounding you. The desert flies by as
turbans glow in the distance and saris dance in the
sand. We spend 10 days in Gujarat where you will see
a more remote and wild landscape. Set in one of the
most spectacular locations on earth, we will be staying
within a wildlife sanctuary in traditional but comfortable
koobas (individual cottages). |
|
| |
There
is an amazing variety of flora and fauna as well as
a wide variety of birds and wildlife. In this part of
India the skies are crystal clear and the nights are
spectacular enabling you to see a blanket of stars.
We will also be spending time in Bhuj where you will
be taken to see the more remote villages, so remote
that we will have to obtain permits. Here you will witness
the lifestyle of the indigenous people of Gujarat in
all of their splendour as if time has stood still. |
